Joan of's father was John "Soft Sword" and her mother was Isabella de Taillefer.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry II "FitzEmpress" Plantagenet and Eleanor d'Aquitaine et Poitou; her maternal grandparents were Aimer de Taillefer and Alix Adelaide De Joigny Courtenay Courtenay. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Henry III of, Richard of, Eleanor of and Isabella of. She had fourteen half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Richard, Oliver, Osbert, Bartholomew, Eudes, Geoffrey, Henry, John, Philip, Hugh XI, Aymer, Geoffrey, Guy, William, Joan of, Isabel, Maud, Agnes, Alice Brun, Isabelle and Marguerite.  She died in Essex.
