Joan was born in 1379 in Beaufort Castle, Anjou, France.  Joan's father was John Plantagenet and her mother was Cathrine Swynford de Roelt.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward and Philippa D'Avesnes; her maternal grandfather was Sir Payne de Roelt. She had three brothers named John, Henry and Thomas.  She was the youngest of the four children. She had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named IV, John, Philippa, Elizabeth and Katherine.  She died at the age of 61 on November 13th, 1440 in Howden, Yorkshire, England.


Joan's first family with Ralph De Neville

‌Joan and Ralph were married in a religious ceremony on November 29th, 1396 in Chateau de Beaufort, France.  They had eight sons and seven daughters, named Richard, Henry, William, Thomas, Cuthbert, Sir Edward, John, George, Joan, Katherine, Anne, Eleanor, Robert, Cecily and Joan.
