John was born in 1903 in Ballygalda.  John's father was Patrick Larkin and his mother was Catherine Brennan.  His paternal grandparents were John Larkin and Margaret Connor; his maternal grandparents were John Brennan and Ellen Quigley. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Jim, Paddy, Tommy, Willie, Margaret, Maureen, Lena, Kitty and Brigid.  He was the oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 53 in 1956 in Tralee.
