    The Larkin family came from the Ballymoe side of Ballintubber Parish ( which is near Castlerea) to Ballygalda (formerly English Town) about the year 1850. They lived in a district called Marnellsgrove. The Landlord of the place was Marnell and the Larkins acted as stewards for him. They themselves had about 15 acres of land and had in addition permission to graze their stock on Marnell's estate. Though they had changed to Ballygalda their burial place continued to be in Ballintubber ( beside the branch of the family that remained in Marnellsgrove), till about 1920.
