Ferne was born on September 10th, 1895. Ferne's father was Allen Decatur Webb and her mother was Mary Ann Springer (Webb). Her paternal grandparents were Addison J. Webb and Wilmouth Griffin Harder (Webb). She had two brothers and four sisters, named Harry, Tracy, Blanche, Della, Lucile and Minnie. She was the third youngest of the seven children. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Emerson, Hattie and Lillie. She died at the age of 90 on March 8th, 1986 in Stewardson, Illinois. She was buried at the Mound Cemetery.
