Occupation Notes
"... under the above named officers in the County of Montgomery aforesaid from which place to the Big Island of Holston River where we rendezvoused & Remained for about the space of 30 days. We then marched down the Holston to (begin page 2) The Tennessee River and down the Tennessee to the mouth of the Ohio & then up the Mississippi to Illinois where we joined Genl. Clark and Re Encamped at CasCaskia. We arrived at the Hind Quarters of Genl. Clark some time about the 1st of May 1779 at this place we remained until the expiration of our tours of 12 months."
From about January 1779 to about January 1780 Elijah's occupation was a private for the Regular Army of the United States, in Captain Jesse Evans' Company, Colonel John Montgomery's Virginia Regiment.1

Whereabouts

Elijah lived in Amherst County, Virginia for twelve years from June 10th, 1762 to about 1774.1

Where I resided until I was about 12 years of age... "
He lived in Montgomery County, Virginia for four years from about 1775 to about February 1779.1Occupancy/Contact Notes
"... when I removed with my parents to Montgomery County Virginia where I resided at the commencement of the Revolutionary War. I enlisted in Montgomery County Virginia in Captain Jesse Evins Company of the first Virginia Regiment under the command of Col. John Montgomery. I enlisted in January or February 1779... "
He lived at Eaton's Station for one year from about February 1780 to about 1781.1Occupancy/Contact Notes
"I returned after my discharge to Eaton’s Station about 2 miles below Nashville where I remained about 12 months..."
He lived as a prisoner of the Indians & British for two years and six months from about February 1781 to about August 1783.1Occupancy/Contact Notes
"... when I was taken a prisoner by the Indians & British. They retained me about 2 yrs & half in captivity before I made my escape from them."
He lived at the Long Island of the Holston for one year and six months from about August 1783 to about February 1785.1Occupancy/Contact Notes
"I then returned to the Long Island of Holston where I remained and resided about 18 months."
He lived in Jefferson County, Kentucky for sixteen years from about 1802 to about 1818.4 1Occupancy/Contact Notes
"From there I moved to Kentucky where I lived about 16 years."
He lived in Hickman County, Tennessee for twenty-five years from about 1818 to September 5th, 1843.5 1Occupancy/Contact Notes
"From Jefferson County Kentucky I removed to Hickman County Tennessee where I have resided for the last 14 years and still reside."
He died September 5, 1843.
