Elijah was born on June 10th, 1762 in
Amherst County, Virginia.

James Mayfield Sr. and his mother was <Unknown>. He had five brothers and two sisters, named
Micajah,
James,
Isaac,
Sutherlin,
Elisha,
Mary and
Sarah. He was the second youngest of the eight known children. He died at the age of 81 on September 5th, 1843 in
Maury County, Tennessee.

"... when I removed with my parents to Montgomery County Virginia where I resided at the commencement of the Revolutionary War. I enlisted in Montgomery County Virginia in Captain Jesse Evins Company of the first Virginia Regiment under the command of Col. John Montgomery. I enlisted in January or February 1779... "
He lived at
Eaton's Station for one year from about February 1780 to about 1781.

as a prisoner of the Indians & British for two years and six months from about February 1781 to about August 1783.
