Arij was born on October 22nd, 1831 in Zwammerdam.1  Arij's father was Cornelis Abrahamszn Hoogendoorn and his mother was Annigje de Jong.  His paternal grandparents were Abraham Dirkszn Hoogendoorn and Neeltje Cornelisdr de Haan; his maternal grandparents were Arie Gerritszn de Jong and Aaltje Gerritsdr Hoogendoorn. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named Jan, Gerrit, N.N., Gerrit, Gerrit, Jacob, Jacob, Floris, Aaltje, Aaltje and Jannigje.  He was the oldest of the twelve children. He had two half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Abraham, Cornelis, Marrigje, Marrigje, Marrigje, N.N. and Margje.  He died at the age of 23 on June 11th, 1855 in Diever.1
