James was born in 1807 in Oakley, Hampshire and his christening took place there on April 12th, 1807.1 2   James' father was Peter Oliver and his mother was Sarah Worte.  His paternal grandparents were William Oliver and Anna Decker. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, Peter, Abraham, George, John, George, Kezia, Sarah, Jane and Mary.  He was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.
