John New

John was born in 1890 in Southampton, Hampshire.¹ John's father was Henry William New and his mother was Anne Amelia Gannaway. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Joseph Gannaway and Susan Devine. He had two brothers and eight sisters, named Henry, Albert, Florence, Edith, Louisa, Ann, Christabel, Grace, Dorothy and Ruth. He was the third youngest of the eleven children. He had two half-sisters named Ann and Lydia.
