Edith was born in 1893 in Carlton, Yorkshire.1   Edith's father was John Morritt and her mother was Emma Brown.  Her maternal grandparents were Charles Brown and Sarah Brewins. She had three brothers and six sisters, named George, Thomas, Arthur, Ellen, Sarah, Annie, Mary, Emma and Ada.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
