Ada was born in 1891 in Carlton, Yorkshire.1   Ada's father was John Morritt and her mother was Emma Brown.  Her maternal grandparents were Charles Brown and Sarah Brewins. She had three brothers and six sisters, named George, Thomas, Arthur, Ellen, Sarah, Annie, Mary, Emma and Edith.  She was the second youngest of the ten children.
