William was born in 1800 in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire and his christening took place there on April 7th, 1800.1   William's father was Thomas Avis and his mother was Mary Chambers.  His paternal grandparents were William Avis and Elizabeth. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Nathanial, Thomas, Ann, Mary and Dinah.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 33 in 1833.1
