Thomas was born in 1769 in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire and his christening took place there on October 22nd, 1769.1   Thomas' father was William Avis and his mother was Elizabeth.  His paternal grandparents were Nathanial Avis and Mary Ellyot. He had a brother and two sisters, named William, Hannah and Mary.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 75 in December 1844 in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.2
