William was born in 1746 in Aston Clinton, St. Leonards, Buckinghamshire and his christening took place there on September 14th, 1746.1   William's father was Nathanial Avis and his mother was Mary Ellyot.  His paternal grandparents were Nathanial Avis and <Unknown>. He had a sister named Mary.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 85 in 1831 in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire.1
