John's father was Peter Turner and his mother was Catherine Stewart.  His paternal grandparents were John Turner and Janet Marshall. He had eight sisters named Janet, Mary, Catharine, Agnes, Annie, Margaret, Isabella and Peterina.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 75 on November 3rd, 1926 in Edinburgh.^3 4
