Janet's father was Peter Turner and her mother was Catherine Stewart.  Her paternal grandparents were John Turner and Janet Marshall. She had a brother and seven sisters, named John, Mary, Catharine, Agnes, Annie, Margaret, Isabella and Peterina.  She was the oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 81 in 1929 in Edinburgh.
