William's father was Walter Colquhoun Towers and his mother was Jane (Jean, Jeanie) Kerr. His paternal grandparents were William Tours and Margaret Colquhoun; his maternal grandparents were Archibald Kerr and Isabella (Bella) Purdon. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Walter, Archibald, John, Alexander, James, Elmer, Isabella and Margaret. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 91 on April 23rd, 1972 in New Jersey. He was buried in New Jersey.³⁴⁴
