Walter was born in April 1850 in Paisley.¹²

- 29 in 1881, 24 at marriage, so born between 4-Apr-1851 and 25-Feb-1852, in Paisley

Walter's father was William Tours and his mother was Margaret Colquhoun. His paternal grandparents were William Tours and Janet Fulton. He had two brothers and six sisters, named William, John, Margaret, Janet, Isabella, Cecillia, Elisabeth and Christina. He was the second youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 74 in 1924 in New Jersey. He was buried in New Jersey.³⁴
