Isabella's father was Thomas Findlay and her mother was Jane Crawford Frew. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Findlay and Isobel Shaw. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Andrew, Thomas, Margaret and Janet. She was the third oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 1 in 1862 in Kilsyth.
