Matthew Aitken 
Matthew was born in January 1841 in Irvine.1 2 Matthew's father was James Aitken and his mother was Janet Aird. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Aird and Helen Crawford. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, Thomas, John, Lawrence, Nancy, Elisabeth, Ellennora and Janet. He was the second youngest of the nine children.-
