John Aitken

John was born in 1838 in Ayrshire.¹   John's father was James Aitken and his mother was Janet Aird.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Aird and Helen Crawford. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, Thomas, Matthew, Lawrence, Nancy, Elisabeth, Ellennora and Janet.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.
