Benjamin Rucker 
Benjamin was born about 1720 in Amherst Or Bedford Co., VA, USA. Benjamin's father was John Rucker and his mother was Susannah. His paternal grandparents were Peter Rucker and Elizabeth Fielding; his maternal grandparents were William Phillips and Susaanah Lloyd. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Peter, Reubin, John, Ambrose, Isaac, Anthony, Margaret, Sarah, Phoebe, Mildred and Winifred. He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children. He died on October 8th, 1810 in Amherst Co., VA, USA.General Notes
Benjamin and his brother Anthony were the inventors of the James River
Batteau.
The James River Batteau was a tobacco boat used to transport tobacco down
river to Richmond. Each year the event is celebrated in Lynchburg with a
replica sailing down the James River.
