Gideon was born on December 25th, 1793 in Amherst Co., VA, USA. Gideon's father was Benjamin Rucker and his mother was Betsy. His paternal grandparents were John Rucker and Susannah. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James, Thomas, Bennett, Ransom, Lucy, Millie Mildred and Sophia. He was the second youngest of the eight children.-
