Ambrose Rucker 
Ambrose was born on April 13th, 1735 in Orange Co, VA, USA Formerly Spotsylvania Co, VA. Ambrose's father was John Rucker and his mother was Susannah. His paternal grandparents were Peter Rucker and Elizabeth Fielding; his maternal grandparents were William Phillips and Susaanah Lloyd. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Peter, Reubin, John, Benjamin, Isaac, Anthony, Margaret, Sarah, Phoebe, Mildred and Winifred. He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 72 on December 21st, 1807 in Amherst Co., VA, USA.General Notes
Believed to have served in the Rev. War. Military service: Colonel in
Rev. War Have also found him listed with the same children but different
wife- Mary Clifton Headley, b. abt. 1730. believe she is the wife of his
son Reubin. And another source shows that he married 2 - Mary Wingfield.

Nearby stood Rucker's Chapel, one of the first Anglican (present-day
Episcopal) churches in Amherst County. Also known as Harris Creek Church
and later as St. Matthew's, the church was founded by Col. Ambrose Rucker
before 1751. It stood on part of a 5,850 acre tract his father, John
Rucker, patented in 1745. The church served its congregation until 1817,
when the members moved to Ascension Church, in Amherst. Logs from the
chapel were later used to construct a corncrib at Sweet Briar College,
two miles north.

Researching the pioneer settlers of Osage County has led to the
identification of the following Revolutionary War ancestors. Descendants
of these individuals able to document this relationship and service would
be able to apply for membership in the Daughters or Sons of the American
Revolution:

507 records of Culpeper Co. Va. (1761-1780).
