Betty was born about 1771 in Amherst Co., VA, USA. Betty's father was Ambrose Rucker and her mother was Mary Tinsley. Her paternal grandparents were John Rucker and Susannah; her maternal grandparents were Edward Tinsley and Margaret Talliaferro. She had four brothers and eleven sisters, named Ruben, Ambrose, Isaac, Benjamin, Winifred, Margaret Peggy, Molly, Frances Franky, Caroline, Sophia, Matilda, Sally, Charlotte, Peggy and Sarah Sallie. She was the eighth oldest of the sixteen children. She died about 1819 in Amherst Co., VA, USA.-
