Lewis Madden was born on November 3rd, 1846 in Tazewell County, Illinois. Lewis Madden's father was Christopher Shaffer and his mother was Elizabeth C. Cox. His paternal grandparents were Christopher Shaffer and Mary Fisher; his maternal grandparents were Emmer C. Cox and Elizabeth Huff. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William M., John Hamilton, Phoebe, Levina, Elizabeth Ann and Sarah Jane. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named Orlando. He died at the age of 77 on January 17th, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was buried in Buckeye Cemetery near Morton, Illinois.General Notes
