Dafydd II ap Llywelyn was born in November 1208 in Gwynedd, Wales.  Dafydd II ap Llywelyn's father was Llywelyn Fawr the Great ap Iowerth of Wales and his mother was Joan (Joanna) of England.  His paternal grandparents were Iorwerth Drwyndwn ap Owain Gwynedd and Marared verch Madoc of Powys; his maternal grandparents were John I Plantagenet Lackland of England and Clementina Dauntsey. He had a brother and three sisters, named Tegwared-y-Bais Wen ap Llywelyn, Elen (Helena) verch Llywelyn, Angharad verch Llywelyn and Margaret verch Llywelyn. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, Marared Drwyndon verch Llywelyn, Gwenllian verch Llywelyn, Gwladys Ddu verch Llywelyn and Helen (Elen) verch Llywelyn of North.  He died in Aberconwy, Arllechwedd Uchaf, Caernarvonshire, Wales.

‌Dafydd II ap Llywelyn and Isabela were married in a religious ceremony in 1229.  They had a daughter named Anne ferch.
