Helen (Elen) verch Llywelyn of North was born before 1220.  Helen (Elen) verch Llywelyn of North's father was Llywelyn Fawr the Great ap Iowerth of Wales and her mother is Gwenllian verch Ednyfed Fychan of Brynffenigl.  Her paternal grandparents were Iorwerth Drwyndwn ap Owain Gwynedd and Marared verch Madoc of Powys; her maternal grandfather is Ednyfed Fychan ap Kendrig and her maternal grandmother was Tanglwy Goch verch Llywarch of Rhos. She had three half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Dafydd II ap Llywelyn, Tegwared-y-Bais Wen ap Llywelyn, Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, Elen (Helena) verch Llywelyn, Angharad verch Llywelyn, Margaret verch Llywelyn, Marared Drwyndon verch Llywelyn, Gwenllian verch Llywelyn and Gwladys Ddu verch Llywelyn.  She died after 1291.
