Owain ap was born about 1044 in Llys Edwin, Llaneurguin, Flintshire, Wales. Owain ap's father was Edwin ap Gronwy and his mother is Iwerydd verch Cynfyn of Powys. His paternal grandparents are Gronwyn ap Einion and Ethelfleda verch Edwin; his maternal grandparents were Cynfyn ap Gwerystan and Angharad verch Maredudd. He had two brothers named Howel ap and Uchdrud ap. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died in 1105.General Notes

speculates that his father is Eadwine (Edwin) of Mercia

of the genealogists list his father as Edwin ap Gronwy , Prince of
Tegingl (descendant of Rhodri Mawr, King of Wales).
