Llywelyn Fawr the Great ap Iowerth of was born in 1173 in Anglesey, Wales.  Llywelyn Fawr the Great ap Iowerth of's father was Iorwerth Drwyndwn ap Owain Gwynedd and his mother was Marared verch Madoc of Powys.  His paternal grandfather was Owain Fawr Gwynedd ap Gruffydd and his paternal grandmother is Gwladys verch Llywarch; his maternal grandfather was Madoc ap Maredudd and his maternal grandmother is Susanna verch Gruffydd of Gwynedd. He had a sister named Adda ap Iorwerth.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 67 on April 11th, 1240 in Aberconway, Carnarvon, Wales.  He was buried in 1240 in Aberconwy Abbey, Aberconvway, Carnarvon, Wales.

‌Llywelyn Fawr the Great ap Iowerth of and Joan (Joanna) of were married in a religious ceremony on June 18th, 1205.  They had two sons and three daughters, named Dafydd II ap Llywelyn, Tegwared-y-Bais Wen ap Llywelyn, Elen (Helena) verch Llywelyn, Angharad verch Llywelyn and Margaret verch Llywelyn.
