Lewis Martin was born on June 1st, 1846. Lewis Martin's father was William McClung and his mother was Rachel Viola Gwin. His paternal grandparents were John McClung and Sarah McCutcheon; his maternal grandparents were David Gwin and Violet Crawford. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named John Henderson, David Gwin, William Alexander, Andrew Crawford, Silas Brown, Robert T., Samuel A., Sarah Susan, Frances Violet, Mary Margaret and Susan Agnes. He was the youngest of the twelve children.-
