Prudence was born on January 2nd, 1838 in Shelby,IN. Prudence's father was Thomas Goodrich and her mother was Mary Ray. Her paternal grandparents were George Whetzel Goodrich and Mary Tush; her maternal grandparents were Hudson Ray and Margaret Byerly. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Amos, Cyrus, Nathan, Jefferson, Franklin Pierce, Monroe, Permelia, Phoebe Rhoda and Almira. She was the second oldest of the ten children.-
