Franklin Pierce was born on October 11th, 1855 in Shelby,IN. Franklin Pierce's father was Thomas Goodrich and his mother was Mary Ray. His paternal grandparents were George Whetzel Goodrich and Mary Tush; his maternal grandparents were Hudson Ray and Margaret Byerly. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Amos, Cyrus, Nathan, Jefferson, Monroe, Permelia, Prudence, Phoebe Rhoda and Almira. He was the second youngest of the ten children.
