Her paternal grandparents were George Whetzel Goodrich and Mary Tush; her maternal grandparents were Hudson Ray and Margaret Byerly. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Amos, Cyrus, Nathan, Jefferson, Franklin Pierce, Monroe, Permelia, Prudence and Phoebe Rhoda.
