Nancy Jane was born about 1857 in Monroe County, Indiana. Nancy Jane's father was James Madison Shields and her mother was Martha J. Sciscoe. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Shields and Sarah "Sally" Masterson. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Louis W., George Washington, William C., John Thomas, James K. Polk, Isaac, David Jefferson, Sarah Elizabeth, Mary Alice and Delitha Belle. She was the fifth youngest of the eleven children. She had four half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Joseph Lenzy, Hiram Martin, Grover Cleveland, Paris Everett "Jack", Estella Martha, Mamie Alma, Infant, Izella Ethel, Maude Emiline, Rosezetta Frances and Nancy Pearl. She died on January 8th, 1895 in Indian Creek Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana. She was buried in Shield's Cemetery, Polk Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana.-
