Daniel was born on August 3rd, 1764 in Lancaster Co., PA.  Daniel's father was Jerome Hieronimus Eckman and his mother was Anna Barbara Slaymaker.  His paternal grandparents were Johannes Eckman and Eva Dorothea Seitz; his maternal grandparents were Mathias Schleiermacher and Catharine Schiebel. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Johannes, John Martin, John Henry, John Jacob, Heieronimus, Jr., Anna Barbara, Eva Dorothea, Mary Magdalena, Esther and Maria.  He was the third youngest of the eleven children.
