William was born on March 3rd, 1792 in Lancaster Co., PA. William's father was Thomas Buffington and his mother was Elizabeth Slaymaker. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Buffington and Mary Frissell; his maternal grandparents were John Slaymaker and Elizabeth White. He had six brothers and four sisters, named John, Daniel, Henry Slaymaker, Thomas, Alexander, Benjamin, Margaret, Ann, Jane and Elizabeth. He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.General Notes
