Jane was born on July 23rd, 1788 in Lancaster Co., PA. Jane's father was Thomas Buffington and her mother was Elizabeth Slaymaker. Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Buffington and Mary Frissell; her maternal grandparents were John Slaymaker and Elizabeth White. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named John, Daniel, William, Henry Slaymaker, Thomas, Alexander, Benjamin, Margaret, Ann and Elizabeth.
