Fanny was born in 1877 in Petworth.1  Fanny's father was William Steer and her mother was Mary Cobby.  Her paternal grandparents were James Steer and Ursula Steyning. She had five brothers and seven sisters, named George, Thomas, William, Felix, Charley, Charlotte, Mary, Flora, Elizabeth, Rhoda, Emily and Edith.  She was the second youngest of the thirteen children.
