Before William married in 1870, William may have had an illegitimate child.  "candsterry", the Terry family from Utah, share 24 cM (2 segments) common DNA matches with me and descendants of Ann Ellen Tomlinson.  William (or one of hid children) may have had another child that was adopted.

In 1871, William (a local carter, 26) and Mary Ann (24) had son Richard (1) and Mary Ruggs (Boarder, 60) living with them at 7 Cedar Street, Bolton.  They had the first three girls baptised at Holy Trinity, Bolton-le-Moors.  Son Richard died aged 7.

In 1881, Richard and Mary A (36 & 34) were at 34 Isabel Street, Great Bolton with Ann E (9), Sarah A (5), Richard (2), and William (6mo).

In 1891, William & Mary (46 & 44) lived at 130 Weston St., Great Bolton with Ann E (19), Sarah A (15), Richard (12), William (10), Charlotte (7), May J (5) and Maggie (3).

Sometime around 1912 the family lived in Yeadon or Wharfedale, (7 miles North of Bradfors and Leeds), Yorkshire.  Ths is where Edith M Denton's birth was registered.  No other births were registered here.

Charles and Elizabeth moved with their son to Middlesex, where Ernest was a Chertered Surveyer.  They retired and moved to Blackpool, where both died.

1912 Edith Mary Denton In 1912, Edith was born in Wharfedale, Yorkshire.  All the other siblings were born in Bolton. 1891 - 1942 William Ridings 50 50 William's father was Joseph, a labourer, "Not Deceased" in 1915

Only 2 births are registered in Bolton, and 7 years after they married. 

In 1822 they were in SW Bolton and in 1824 Elsie was registered in GB & Lever.
1874 - 1874 Emma Tomlinson 5m 5m 1897 Ethel Booth In 1914, Ethel may have married either Arthur Greenhalgh or Arthur W Westby (two Bolton RO marriages) or Arthur Bennett in 1915.  There is a 14cM DNA match to Isobel Goatcher confirming Westby.

In 1920 Arthur William George Westby was killed in WW1.

What happened then?  Did Ethel remarry (and have more children)?  There are 7 Bolton marriages for "Ethel Booth" in the following 10 years, but only one for Ethel Westby to a Herbert W Berry at Horwich in 1838. However that Ethel was born in 1914.

6 May 1943, Ethel Westby and Arthur Wm Westby were Middleton, listed as next of kin on a WW1 Pension Record Card for Arthur Wm Westby.

After 1843 the famiily may have moved to Leicester.  It seems Edna and Arthur both married in Leicester (in 1836 and 1842). However it may be Ethel stayed behind and married George H Hall

1879 - 1948 Alfred Hilton 68 68 Alfred was an Insurance Agent, the son of Daniel Hilton, an engine driver and Louisa Smith.

In 1899, they were living at 51 George Street, Great Lever (when Doris was baptised), and also an insrance agent on the 1901 census.

In 1902, when thier son Alfred was baptised, Alfred had become a shop keeper at 2 Snope Street, Great Lever.  They were still living there in 1939.

In 1921, their son Alfred, a fireman living at 2 Snipe Street, married Violet Evans

In 1911, Alfred and Sarah Alice Hilton (34 & 35) had been married 14 years and were at 2 Snipe Street, Bolton.  Alfred was a grocer - Dealer (shop keeper at home) and an employer.  Son Alfred was 8.

1936 - >2021 Margery Booth 85 85 Margery Foster nee Booth is my 3rd cousin 1929 James Edward Booth James Edward Booth's birth was registered in Ormskirk. There was no indant death registered.  In 1939 he was probably with his parents at Crompton, but the record is obscured.

Ernest became an architect and moved with his parents to 39 Sutton Way, Heston, Middlesex.  The 1939 register shows is DOB as 18-Oct-1909

Ernest died in 1984 in East Sussex (confirmed by DOB)

On 20 Sep 1916, John Frederick Brooks married Levinah Elizabeth Allen (1894-1978) at Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 1939, Alfred (Born 4 Aug 02) was with assumed wife Annie E (born 11 Nov 07).  His son Harry (born 1921) and another was with him.

From the 1939 register it is safe to assume that the two children born to a HILTON and EVANS family, are another family.

Benjamin and Ann Ellen Booth (nee Tomlinson) had been married 15 years in 1911.  They had 2 children, Ethel (14), and Benjamin Jnr (8).  They had no other children.  Benjamin was sucessful as a Head Spinning Master (cotton works) and was able to have a servant girl Elizabeth Smethurst (17) doing housework.  They lived at 286A Crescent Road, Bolton.

BOOTH Benjamin of 9 Lord Street, Glossop, Derbyshire died 23 Dec 1950. Administration Nottingham 28 Feb to Benjamin Booth cotton mill operative.  Effects £1862 16s.

Benjamin is buried at Heaton cemerery with his brother James Brooks Booth and family.

In 1871, James and Mary A (both 36) were at 31 Boardman Street, Manchester with Joseph (12), Ann (10), Willie (6), Mary J (4) and George (1).
