Thomas was born on May 21st, 1847 in Bury and his christening took place on May 28th, 1847 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Thomas' father was William Buckley and his mother was Ann Nuttall. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James, William, William, John, Elizabeth and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
