Elsie's father was Albert Edward Halliwell and her mother was Mary (Polly) Alice Atherton Tomlinson.  Her maternal grandparents were William Atherton Tomlinson and Harrietta (Harriet) Shepherd. She had a sister named Edith.  She was the older of the two children.  She died in 1894 in Bolton.¹
