Henry was born in June 1886 in Bolton.1  Henry's father was Thomas Beswick Holland and his mother was Mary Alice Atherton Tomlinson. He had three brothers and a sister, named Joseph, Lewis, Thomas and Gertrude.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.
