Clara was born on December 18th, 1894 in Royton.1  Clara's father was James Winterbottom and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Navin. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Wilfred, Thomas, Fred, Frank, Mary, Frances, Alma and Rosie.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 61 in 1955.
