Rosie was born in 1905 in Oldham.1  Rosie's father was James Winterbottom and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Navin. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Wilfred, Thomas, Fred, Frank, Mary, Frances, Clara and Alma.  She was the youngest of the nine children.
