John's father was Thomas Tomlinson and his mother was Martha Carr.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Tomlinson and Phoebe Owens. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named William, Thomas, Randle, John, Elizabeth, Phoebe, Sarah, Martha, Martha, Margaret and Ann.  He died at the age of 4 in August 1818 in Harthill.  He was buried on August 14th, 1818 in Malpas.¹
