Margaret was born in December 1850 in Haslingden.1  Margaret's father was John Storey and her mother was Sarah Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Abraham Mather and Margaret Liddle. She had two brothers and a sister, named Nicholas, John and Mally.  She was the youngest of the four children.
