Thomas' father was Thomas William Stocks and his mother was Clara Lee. His paternal grandparents were Charles Henry Stocks and Frances (Fanny) Ann Perry. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Charles, George, Frank, Phyllis, Dorothy, Evelyn, Clara, Hazel and Elsie. He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.
