Martha's father was William Ramsden and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Hamer.  Her paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and Matty Ramsden.  John Nelson and Sarah Ramsden were her grandparents through her father's adoption. She had six brothers and four sisters, named John, James, William, Alfred, Fred, Ernest, Sarah, Emma, Alice and Alice.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
