Fred's father was William Ramsden and his mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Hamer.  His paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and Matty Ramsden.  John Nelson and Sarah Ramsden were his grandparents through his father's adoption. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John, James, William, Alfred, Ernest, Martha, Sarah, Emma, Alice and Alice.  He was the second youngest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 1 in 1876 in Turton.¹
